Polk County Florida to get Hybrid Ford Escapes
Polk County is joining some other metro Orlando governments that have gone green.
More and more people are realizing the benefits of electric vehicles.
Five colorful hybrid Ford Escapes, known for getting better gas mileage and emitting less pollution, will debut in Polk this week.
“The county has never done any sort of alternative fuel initiative,” said Bob Stanton, Polk County’s fleet management director. “The Escapes are giving us the opportunity to enter that arena and determine if it’s a good deal for the citizens.”
The county paid about $24,600 for each of the hybrid sport utility vehicles, which will be used in multiple departments including the building division. Vehicles in that department usually log about 15,000 miles annually.
